Through ongoing dialogues neighborhood food tours, and train-‐the-‐trainer workshops our Food Justice Educators are identifying the healthy food needs of our community and co-‐developing solutions with other Latinx young adults and their parents. Through this work in history and commitment to community, our families, youth and urban farmers we have been able to establish and cultivate urban farming opportunities in Tamales y Bicicletas half an acre in South Minneapolis and construct the first ever Deep Winter Greenhouse in an urban setting.
Tamales y Bicicletas Invernadero helps to expand our growing season by growing vegetables over the winter months. Our community farmers are also able to begin starts/seedlings earlier so to be able to transplant healthy and strong seedlings into our field of Tamales y Bicicletas urban farm.
Tamales y Bicicletas Invernadero allows us to push back on food insecurity in Black, Brown and Indigenous communities, while working with our growers, youth and families to decolonize our food system while getting deep understanding of urban agriculture skills and knowledge.
